We have a hair school about 15 min from me that is cheaper than a regular salon because it is students. I really dont have the money to go to an all out salon %26amp; get my hair tipped. You think they would do an ok job?

They might if the teachers are supervising. Usually when the students are doing colors, the teachers always have to supervise because it is a chemical that they are working with for safety reasons. I am a hairstylist and when we started using color, the teacher always mixed it while we observed and applied it as well. They only let a student do this when they know they are ready. Go to the school and ask about the proceedure and what to expect. I think they can do an okay job.

Having your hair done by beauty students is a great idea. It saves you money and gives them practice. Just because they aren't licensed yet, doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing. They are learning - but the school wouldn't let them use live models if they didn't know what they were doing. I have done this before and it was the BEST hair color I have EVER gotten. And it was SO cheap Plus, they usually have a supervisor watching them to make sure they don't mess anything up.

Oh my lord, I had such a bad experience with a student ,they cut my shoulder lenghth hair into a bob but it was crooked so they cut it shorter, this went on until ,and I swear this is true,my hair was just below my ears,AND i was going to a wedding the next day.Good luck.

I don't think it's a bad idea. The students are closely monitored by the instructors. If the student seems to be having some trouble, or appears to not be doing something correctly, the instructor will guide them through or sometimes the instructor will take the scissors and finish the job herself.

It would be fine. A beauty school is just that. Students learning. I have been many times and my hair always turns out just fine. The teachers will only allow students to do what they know they are good at. They are not going to put you with a student who just started a week ago. The students that will be coloring your hair will be the ones that will be graduating the soonest and know what they are doing. Also, the teachers are there watching, helping %26amp; advising the students the entire time.

If it would make you feel more comfortable, when you go into the facility just ask whom ever they schedule you with how long before they graduate. That will give you an answer right away. I have never had a bad experience %26amp; would recemend it to anyone.

i dont think its bad. its lot cheaper. every salon u go to so expensive, even for a trim. they do geat job. even if they do anything wrong, their supervisor/tutor is always there to fix it and give you more dicount as it went slightly wrong.

no way! i get my hair done all the time by beauty students. lots of tricky things too. layers angles highlights all at once. they're great at it and eager to learn and are sometimes a lot nicer than regular hair stylists!

I think its a good idea and its much cheaper. But make sure that when you make your appointment to always ask for your hair to be done by a senior student because they have more experience and they usually do a better job. Been there and done that. Trust me

You could use one of the temporary colors that are on the market, while your waiting for your hair to grow out. They last for about 3 to 4 weeks and will not damage your hair. Stay away from any color that has "golden" in the name, it will react badly with the red in your hair. Otherwise I would definitely advise you to go to a Color Specialist to get your hair colored because of the reds that you say are already in your hair. Red can be very tricky to color over and sometimes have horrible results if you don't know what your doing. Good luck!

I use a flat iron all of the time, my hair used to be dyed a lighter blonde, but now I'm back to my normal darker blonde.

Anyways, try using Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray. You can find it at almost any store where they sell other hair products and make-up, etc. It works great! Just mist your hair with it before you use the flat iron. It will protect your hair from completely frying it.

My hair has some highlights and stuff in it, but I use this very good conditioner. It's called Loreal Nature's Therapy (It is a Mega Moisture nurturing cream). It's for very dry, chemically processed hair. It softens, nurtures, and moisturizes. It's a classic salon product, it's about $12.00. It's a thick cream that you evenly spread out on your hands, rub it into your roots and then spread it out evenly to the ends of your hair (make sure your hair is towel dried before you do it). Leave it in for five minutes - after that, rinse. You'll see and feel the results instantly.

IF you color your hair, you are hurting your hair. In order for the dye to be able to get inside your hair cuticle, the cuticle has to open up. Opening your cuticle causes split ends and damages it. When you are flatironing it, you are doing the same thing. The heat opens up the cuticle and causes it to break. So both things aren't good for your hair, so if your doing both then you really need a good product to keep your hair healthy.

I just got my hair highlighted by a professional about three months ago and it didn't do anything to my hair. A flatiron will give you slit ends regardless but just make sure you get your hair trimmed regularly and if you find a split end, don't pull it apart!! I have made this mistake. I wanted to be sandy blonde really bad and I dyed it from dark brown. It looked horrible. I wished everyday that I hadn't have done it. The woman was a good hairstylist too...the colors just didn't blend well. I went back and got it all dyed back to my natural color and got a ton of highlights. I have not stopped getting compliments since then. My hair is WAY lighter but it looks so much better. Highlights really make a girl look like she takes care of herself, like she takes time to think about her hair. Whatever you decide I hope it turns out well.

Hair has to be rinsed to stop the chemical from processing any more. Your stylist will shampoo and condition your hair after the color processing has finished. You may wash your hair whenever you feel its necessary.

I had my hair highlighted and the girl said that the chemicals would work better since my hair was dirty versus just having washed it and then the chemicals would "slide right off" then it wouldn't stay as long.

I would go for it, but trust me....don't get highlights that are too far from your color. go for a couple shades lighter...don't make a big jump.

use a tone on tone color. loreal makes the best one to me. i used to use wheat blonde which is a beautiful color but they don't have that color any more. go to a beauty supply store and ask for the closest color. a tone on tone will tone down the color and leave highlights.

You should see your hairdresser. Colouring blonde hair brown at home isn't a clever idea. When you bleach hair, you strip the colour out and leave a yellow undertone. When you colour hair brown, the undertone is blue, so what happens when you put blue onto yellow? You get green!!! Your hairdresser can find a shade of brown with enough red in it to stop this happening. Plus if you want low-lights (streaks) and you screw up doing it, it'll REALLY show up and look rubbish, so you need to get it done professionally.

Last year before school started I had my 10 1/2 yr old granddaughters hair highlighted. She has brown hair and it looked kind of mousy and plain. We got very subtle and light highlights in blond. She loved them. They looked so good and really raised her self confidence level.

As long as I've been coloring my hair, I've never done it for any reason other than "Ohhh, I'd like to be a red-head", or "I'd like to be blonde for a little while!" you can put highlights in you hair a day after you color your hair. you want to wait because you dont want to dry or fry out your hair in one day. when you color your hair when after you wash with shampoo use conditioner and leave it in for a few minutes to help re- moisturize your hair. then the next day put highlights in and use that same pattern. and if you use shampoo and conditioner you should use 'garnier fructis' and they have that for hair coloring to and its supose to be better than the other brands because it doesnt reuin you hair. believe me i use that stuff all the time when i color my hair or just wash it.

Some people hate Suave some people swear by it. I prefer to buy shampoo designed for color treated hair as it works best with color treating. If you had a two process lightening then you have some toner which is a form of coloring the hair such that you do not want a clarifying shampoo that will strip it.

try to select conditioners and shampoos designed for color treated, damaged, dry hair. I have used Suave and a variety of other professional and nonprofessional shampoos. Some are better some are worse. Suave does a pretty good job of imitating more expensive shampoos for less money but some people scream when they read this. Yes the really expensive nicer shampoos at the Beauty supply and Beauty Salons are much better. I especially love Redkin as a shampoo and conditioner but it is not very common in this region so I just pick up something I trust not to destroy my hair like Suave if I am not near a Beauty supply or salon. Just try to wash and condition your hair only when needed. And if you can get a good shampoo avoid the conditioner as they tend to make colors and toners/tints come out often unless specifically designed for color treated hair. All color will fade eventually even just from air exposure and sunlight. Such that if you get a brassy color you can buy the shampoos that have a hint of bluing in them that are designed to brighten up white and grey hair because the bluing negates the brassy yellow tones in white hair that is turning white. Often they have a little bit of peroxide in them that brightens up the hair a little bit also so be sure to read the ingredients.

I have used Suave, Dove, Pantene (be sure to use the color type because it is a heavy conditioning shampoo that otherwise may strip out any color or toner), the new VO5 seems pretty good, White Rain, I like Fructis alot but my friend is allergic to it, Redkin products, a large variety of different types. As long as it does not come in a big gallon jug at a discount store today they seem pretty much to be in a good pH range for the hair. Just try to use shampoo designed for color treated hair. Everyone has their favorites. I am really curious as to what was in the body cleanser container at a hotel I stayed at across the border in Ciudad Juarez because it did not dry out my hair or my skin and left my body and hair feeling clean along with smelling good. I prefer the shampoos with vitamins like vitamin E because my hair is very dry. My color tends to fade very fast in the sun so if you have some color wear something to protect it from fade out.

It is true that the dye is almost 100% natural so it is a lot better for your hair than other dyes that have a lot of harsh chemicals. You can't get washable highlights...unless its just something that goes ontop of your hair like paint. Highlights come from bleach...if you had blonde hair you could put darker colors in it that would wash out but you can't lighten your hair with out bleach...and I don't mean bleach like laundry detergent you need to go to a proffesional.

Go for 2 shades of blonde. A honey blonde and a cinnamon, caramel blonde. That will look so good with your dark hair and more natural. The hairdresser made such a good job of it, and she did tell me that when i go back to my own country and it does grow, it will give me dark roots. I knew this already, but the roots look awful now, but the rest is lovely. The only thing is this country i am living in doesnt know how to do highlights at all. i know it sounds funny but its the truth. Only i dont know what to do and i cant afford an expensive trip back to the uk for my hiar. lol. Can anyone tell me what i can do apart from putting a box of dye in it. If you have a picture of your hair that was taken right after the highlights were put in, you can take that picture in to a local salon, explain what the stylist did before. Tell them you loved the style that they did before and are worried that it won't come out correctly. Have them follow the picture exactly, and you should get at least decent results.

Otherwise, there are do-it-yourself highlight kits that you can get off Ebay, if your local shops don't carry them. Follow the instructions on the box carefully, and you should get at least close to what you want.

every 6 to 8 weeks but remember you will never be able to highlight the same hairs again so when you go to do it you will end up with MORE highlights then you started with. Or you can go the route of coloring over it with you natural color and then highlighting it. Thats called a double process. meaning you are coloring it darker then highlighting it but when you do it this way you HAVE to use a bleach because color doesnt lift color. Hope that helps.

well, you say you live in germany rite? well I know this awesome hair product that comes from germany. I don't know about hair highlights, but if your looking for an awesome shampoo. Look for something called Schwartzkoff. Its a little hard to find it the states though.

if you can get hold of dark henna, that's the only natural one i know of. I know Lush sell them, if there's one in germany. I tried John Frieda Brilliant Brunette, didn't work on me %26amp; really dried up my hair.or try this site ( I think they deliver to germany) they have a range of natural ones (try Henna Highlight Shampoo by Jason, they use mostly natural ingredients).

I have dyed over my hi-lighted hair before. Not golden blond but dark blond. It didn't turn my hair green. The only thing is that my hair turned back to the hi-lights after a few weeks. So you have to keep trimming your hair an dying it for a few months or so to get rid or the hi lights for good. I don't think that it would be a problem but just remember to treat your hair properly...lots of conditioning and moisturizing because dye tends to make ones hair very dry and brittle and possibly damaged.

Please dont strip your hair!! you will only make it worse trust me! Use a semi or demi permanent hair color to cover up your highlights. You can do this same day. if you must use a permanent, by all means dont buy any box color! Get something you have to mix yourself so that you can control the volume of developer your using on your just processed hair. dont use anything higher then10 vol. stick with your natural shade just to cover up. trying to change the color will open up a whole new can of worms! be careful and happy coloring!

that happened to me too! the best way that i got rid of them is to dye my hair the same color that it naturally is, so it only dyed my highlights. then i changed my part.

Buy a brown hair color with an ash tone. Then apply to hair, but only leave on for 5 minutes. This will tone down the brassiness. If you are to afraid to mess with color again, buy a blue toner (at beauty supply store) and a blue tinted conditioner for upkeep.

AVEDA products are pretty reasonable and they last a long time. Most importantly, they work well. The damage remedy is great. If you have an aveda store/salon by you they can recommend the best products by seeing your hair in person.
