A color that's slightly lighter than your regular color would look really pretty, or maybe even just plain brown. I think it's really pretty when the highlights complement the hair color. Like, don't get blonde or red.

Unlike the person above me, I'd get red. I have some red right now. My natural hair color had some reddish-brown in it and my hairstylist suggest red, so I did!

I'm a hairdresser in Los Angeles, and believe me, I KNOW! With Dark Brown hair your colors are light blue, orange, and bright pink. Anything else is definitely a no-no.....

I would go woth one or two shades lighter than you natural color. You dont want it to be too drastic. You want it to look natural . Remember though it is your choice. Check with your stylist. i have dark brown hair and have gotten highlights. i got reddish-brownish highlights and got a lot of complaments on them. they were cute and in little streaks.

my cousin has dark brown hair too and she got really chunky blonde highlights. they were also cute.

I am also a hair dresser in LA- I would suggest colors that add depth to your hair color - It depends on your skin tone, and the specs in your eye color - Also if you want to keep it natural or trendy

Also a factor - the conditon of your hair .

without seeing you I would say - something in the copper to red ( using up to 3 various colors) or you could go with lighter verions of you natural hair color -

If you want to go with an even lighter effect I would try Dark honey , dark blondes -

Just remember that Highlights reqiure lots of up keep- Unkept highlights ALWAYS look BAD!

I would suggest you go to several hair colorists and get consultations - decide from that .

To get my hair cut and highlighted I pay $50, so yeah I think your getting ripped off. Then again it all depends where you live. If you live in a larger city it will cost more.

Check and see if there is an Aveda Institute near you. It's the training school but the stylists working are advanced students and their instructors are always there ready to help or to give advice. I always go there, I always end up with great color and a good cut.

However, the school is about $87 for a cut and highlights. Add $12 for low lights too.

Around here... Southeastern Michigan...I was paying about $210 for a cut, highlights, lowlights and a tip. Outrageous. So to me anything under $100 is great.

Depending on the length and the texture of your hair would consider the decent price. As for myself I pay $100. for a wash, and they blow dry. Take into consideration that my hair is long and very thick. As for your cousin's friend I would look out the way her highlights come out and base my decision on that.

I think it depends on A) where you live, and B) what kind of salon you go to (any thing from a chain salon to a posh, high end place will have a different pricing scale) and C) what product they use.

I used to pay $60 in Dallas. Then I moved to Miami and paid $85 until my hair ended up over-processed and my hair gal tried a gentler product which i paid $110 for. It did give me good results, though.

Whenever I get my hair dyed I get foils done (I'm assuming it's the same deal all over the world...). They just take one section of hair and dye it, and then the section next to it is left natural, then the next is dyed and so on and so forth. So you SHOULD have a nice blended style - partly natural, partly dyed.

i do hair n im not sure wat u mean by u natural highlites show thru. but if u are want jus a hint of color u can have them put in hi lites n low lites n leave some of u natural hair color. or u can have them dye u hair chocolate brown(my favortie) n put a highlight or highlite n lowlite to it....ect......

is really easy to dye u own hair from box or bottle u can buy at beauty store it is lyke 2 dolla at beauty store n u can get ANY color! u can even do u own highlites thay sell kits simple to use. i speak experience neva paid to get my hair colored n have been dye n highlight n bleach it since 6th grade.

Ask your hairdresser to put a semi-pernament colour on your hair. This will keep your hair looking shiny, and will show your natural highlights. Semi-pernament is the way to go if you don't want to have to go back to the salon every month to have your regrowth seen to, as the semi colour fades after 24 washes.

First you need to look at the base color in the hair dye when you go to purchase it. I would highly suggest a beauty supply store instead of the boxed kits at your grocery store or department discount store.

At the beauty supply store I would look for a base color along the lines of neutral or golden. Stay away from base colors, red, violet, or orange. Then find a brass or red reducer additive to add to the dye. As far as the developer, I would suggest a level not higher than 20. The higher the number on the developer, the more it opens the hair to deposit color.

My best suggestion for you would be to purchase Clairol Second Nature hair dye in a color with a neutral base in the brown shade. Second Nature line is a deposit only, so it is not permanent. This way you can see what a permanent color like this would look like without all the damage of opening your hair up to color it. It will last a few weeks, but you can go back over it in about two weeks easily if you find the color that you prefer.

Going to a beauty supply store and purchasing this stuff is no more expensive than buying the box kit of the shelf somewhere else.

tell your hairdresser to cut the red of the dye by using a green toner. your hairdresser should also be able to recommend a dye that will not be effected by your meds.. good luck

Go to a salon and ask them to fix it or go to a store with a hair department and then get a golden brown dying color and then do it at home or go to a salon

did you try to lighten it yourself?

brown hair already has red undertones. at home lightening will often turn the hair red or orange.

go to a GOOD experience colorist and ask for a correction. this will cost money, but it's worth it if done right.

golden brown hair dyes will bring out the red tones in your hair. You need to use ASH brown hair dyes. And a shampoo for color treated hair. the cheap shampoos also bring out the red tones.

buy the clairol -herbal essensces hair color and get the "16 star light" ....its not too blonde and not too brown and has no red! good luck! :)
